An abode for fairies - Pari Mahal

A seven terraced garden overlooking the lake and the enchanting city of Srinagar in Kashmir, Pari Mahal literally means An Abode Of Fairies. And you can see why. Arched niches and stone walls give this quiet, 17th Century structure this unique mystery, this out-of-the-world air. It was originally a Buddhist monastery, and was later used as a school of astrology. And now, it stands the Zabarwan mountain range, quietly presenting to the world glimpses of a world gone by. Time seems to stand still here. And you almost expect some celestial beings to step out from behind the stairways. On the day we visited, the last remnants of the recent snowfall were still abundant across the structure. A flower seller stood in a corner, awaiting the occasional tourist. It was a cold day, and our generous and knowledgeable host, Firdous, the proprietor of Blooming  Dale, drove us there, and showed us around. It was rather a task leaving this gorgeous place behind.

It's one of the most beautiful places in Srinagar, and that says a lot. If you are planning to visit, make sure you carry a photo id for checking. The drive up to Pari Mahal itself is a visual journey through some of the most stunning views of the city. Sharing with you guys some of the photographs from our trip. As you can see, words don't quite do justice to this place.
